A Fine Beer In A Fine Place

A "schwartzbier," black beer, at the Auersbach Keller in Leipzig, Germany, which dates from the 1500s.

Geman poet, playwright and naturalist JW von Goethe set part of his work FAUST at the Auersbach Keller; in the scene, reminiscient of a Robert Johnson blues tune (walkin' with the devil side by side), Goethe has two of his characters conversing with the devil.

Springtime in Paris 2010

Looking down the rue de Fleurus into the Luxembourg Gardens, a favorite route of Ernest Hemingway in the 1920s when he visited the atelier and home of Gertrude Stein, located at 27, rue de Fleurus, about 500 yards from where this photo was taken.
